At Scents by the Bay, we’re proud to carry original-recipe recreations of many of those beloved scents and even have access to others through an approved perfumer from the original owners.

Understanding Changes Over Time

We know how deeply personal fragrance can be—especially scents you’ve loved for decades. After receiving questions about differences noticed in some Body Time fragrances, we consulted with original Body Time owner Kathy Saunders, and their wholesale perfumer authorized by Kathy, to produce these fragrances, from whom we source our Body Time scents.

Here are their insights on a few factors can affect how a familiar fragrance smells over time:

Fragrance Regulations & Reformulations

Over the years, industry regulations have evolved, requiring certain ingredients to be modified or replaced. This is similar to changes in the food and cosmetics industries. While every effort is made to maintain the integrity of the original scents, slight adjustments may occur due to ingredient availability and regulatory compliance.

Fresh vs. Aged Fragrance Oils

Fragrance oils continue to develop as they macerate. A freshly made batch may smell lighter or slightly different than an older bottle whose notes have had more time to deepen and mature.

Changes in Scent Perception

Our sense of smell and body chemistry can change over time. Age, environment, and other factors may influence how we experience a fragrance we remember from years ago.

Consistency in Formulas

We use the exact formulas provided by Nectarine, the authorized source for Body Time’s signature scents. These formulas have not been altered in the past three and a half years. If there were any modifications before that time, they would have occurred under previous ownership and would have been noticed long ago.

Formula History

Some Body Time fragrances had different variations throughout the company’s history. The formulas we currently receive from the authorized source have remained unchanged in recent years, although earlier versions may have differed.

We remain committed to preserving these beloved fragrances as faithfully as possible and appreciate the memories and connections they hold for so many of our customers.
