At Scents by the Bay, our Master Perfume Blender specializes in recreating beloved fragrances using professional perfumery techniques and an extensive library of more than 900 premium fragrance and essential oils.

However – if you’re looking to recreate a retired designer scent, before you start the recreation process, please check out our designer & house oils – we have a library and many of them include retired scents!

Our Process...
Step 1
Submit Your Sample
Bring your fragrance into our Berkeley boutique or ship it directly to us.
While you can ship the whole bottle or product, a small sample is all we need to begin the recreation process. If you do ship us your original, we will return it with your samples.
Step 2
Professional Analysis
Our Master Perfume Blender carefully evaluates your fragrance manually by analyzing:
- Top, middle & base notes
- Overall balance
- Dry down, projection & longevity
- Fragrance family and structure
Step 3
Custom Recreation
Using years of blending experience and our extensive fragrance library, we begin recreating your scent from the ground up.
This process may require several iterations to achieve the closest possible match.
Step 4
Receive Your Samples
You’ll receive three 3 mL custom fragrance samples to compare with your original.
Take your time wearing each version to determine which best captures the scent you remember.
One complimentary adjustment round is included if refinements are needed. The final stage can often involve an in-person live adjustment so we can achieve the most ideal result.
Step 5
Order Your Finished Fragrance
Once you’ve selected your favorite version, we’ll produce your recreated fragrance in the size and format of your choice.

Bring your sample into our Berkeley shop, or ship it to us, and our Owner & Master Perfume Blender, Tarah Ornelas, will work to recreate it as close as we can - just for you!
How it works:
• We carefully analyze your original scent (by nose!)
• Handcraft multiple variations to match it as closely as possible (please note age and alcohol based scents can make it harder to get an exact match)
• You receive 4 custom perfume oil sample vials (3mL) to choose your favorite
• One round of adjustments is included if needed
Timeline:
Approximately 4-6 weeks (may be longer during the holidays)

- Service includes one round of complimentary in-store adjustments.
- Additional shipping fees apply if revised samples need to be mailed.
- We are creating these by hand and match as closely as possible but do not guarantee exact results
- We will return your original samples, minus what is used for the recreation and 1 mL to keep on hand in case of future adjustments.
